Playlist for the Week of

November 22 - 25

5 – 10PM

The SOUNDBAR plays the Mercury Records songbook

The voice is the first and still most familiar musical instrument. For us, nothing beats the pairing of the voice and great jazz performance (but an Opera night is coming).  Tonight we celebrate some of the greatest jazz vocal performances of all time from the vaults of Mercury Records – one of the leading Jazz labels of the 40’s and ‘50s (for a time under the A&R supervision of the legendary John Hammond) which found success by promoting recordings in Jukeboxes rather than on the radio, as was common in the period.  Come listen to Nina Simone, Sarah Vaughan, Dinah Washington, Oscar Peterson, Chet Baker, Ernestine Anderson, Shirley Horn, Blossom Dearie, Helen Merrill, Louis Armstrong, Patti Page and more.

5 – 10PM

Artists and bands with dogs in their names

This past week brought us the National Dog Show and National Dog Day.  Tonight we celebrate our canine companions (including wolves and foxes – not just dogs. as the SoundBar always strives to be inclusive) – with music from artists (and albums) containing canine names and themes.  Join us for music from Three Dog Night, Toto, Steppenwolf, Howlin’ Wolf, HoundDog Taylor, Fleet Foxes, Peter Wolf, Greyhounds, Snoop Dogg, Snarky Puppy, Kenny Wayne and Elizabeth Shepherd, Joshua Bassett, and Joe Cocker (plus we’ll sneak in a bit of “Werewolves of London” and “Diamond Dogs” for good measure).

5 – 11PM

Celebrating December first with 65 years of #1 albums

Always nice to be “first” at something, right? So let’s use the first day of the last month of this year to check out some of the “Numero Uno” albums (and runners up) of the last 65 years as recognized by the Grammy Awards (which began recognizing albums of the year in 1959 – a full decade after the introduction of the 33 RPM 12” LP).  Rather than list some examples here (50+ pages of Wikipedia listings), take a look here, and come help us pick your personal favorites.  We promise something for everyone again tonight!

5 – 11PM

You pick. We play!

Explore and make your play requests from our collection of nearly 10,000 records and we’ll play as many sides as we can during the evening.  Priority to vinyl tonight, but we’ll likely pull some music from our virtually unlimited streaming catalogue too.

Meanwhile, our friends at The Groove will offer a special night of “Lights on Broadway” featuring analogue vs vinyl comparative listening in their very special listening/showroom in the back of the SOUNDBAR.  Space will be limited so if you are interested, please reserve your spot on our Events Page
