WE GOT THE FUNK

Another Funk Night with Tonic the Funky Groove Show’s creator and host Michael B.  Continuing our engagement with Norman’s KGOU (105.7) and its music programmers, Michael B. rolls out selections from his exquisite collection of Instrumental Funk recordings. Michael’s on the turntables 7-9. From 5 to7 we’ll have James Brown in rotation, and then from 9 to close hear the cosmic funk sounds of George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic.

Need a warmup for this night of great music? Track down the 2025 PBS Independent Lens Documentary “WE WANT THE FUNK” on PBS or the Kanopy Streaming Service, and of course listen to Michael B’s TONIC: THE FUNKY GROOVE SHOW on Friday nights from 8-11 on KGOU (on the Fridays you can’t get to the Soundbar)!

NOTHING BUT THE BLUES

The year end brings “lists” of favorites from fans and critics for everything under the sun – toys, tech, recipes, books, movies and TV and, yes, MUSIC.  We’ll be drawing from these lists in November and December, and tonight we dive into a baker’s dozen (our lucky number 13, of course) of great Blues and Blues Rock albums that never fail to get our juices flowing.

15 FOR 50

Stereophile Magazine has just given us its list of critics’ picks for the 15 most important albums of 1975 (November Issue, on newsstands now)  – and wow, what a list.  Join us for a night of classic recordings that sound as fresh now as they did when we (or some of us, anyway) first dropped them on our turntables a half century ago.  We’ll get in a side from all 15, and then some! Something special for everyone, all night long, we promise.

A NIGHT OF NEO-SOUL

The passing of D’Angelo in October at 51 gives us reason to celebrate the evolution of Soul and R&B styles from the 90s to NOW, inspired by his genius and reimagining of the genre over the course of his three-albums and influential career. The music of D’Angelo, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Floetry, Ms Lauryn Hill, Robert Glasper, Maxwell, Hiatus Kaiyote, Musiq Soulchild and more.
