JAZZ 101
We start with Ted Gioia’s wonderful book “The Jazz Standards”, pick a half dozen or so of the great songs (out of more than 400) that are part of every jazz artist’s “standard” repertoire, and then play a half dozen very different recorded versions of each song to provide a sonic trajectory of jazz history, a song at a time. Pick your favorite jazz standard (or let us introduce you to a few) and come be amazed with us. (And if you aren’t into Jazz, there’s no better place to begin your jazz education than The SoundBar – and we promise there’s never a pop-quiz at the end of the evening!

STAXING THE DECK
Juneteenth’s coming up, but we’ll get into the mood tonight with a musical tour of the Memphis Stax Record’s label’s remarkable R&B catalog which featured Otis Redding, Booker T, Isaac Hayes, Rufus and Carla Thomas Sam & Dave and more.
Inspired by the great new documentary on STAX streaming on HBO.
