JAZZ 101

A recurring and popular SoundBar Feature, you pick from among of hundreds of Jazz Standards
featured in Ted Gioia’s phenomenal “The Jazz Standards: A Guide to the Repertoire”, we read a short essay
from the book about how the song entered the jazz lexicon, and then we play a half dozen or more seminal
recordings of the song created by some of Jazz’s greatest artists over the decade.  One of those playlist
events the SoundBar was made for, as we turn our space into an intimate night club for the evening and
we all get a chance to engage in active listening and conversation.

WHISKEY AND RY (COODER, THAT IS)

Ry Cooder has been one of the most prolific songwriters, players and
producers on the US and world music stage for nearly 60 years, going back to his earliest bands with Taj
Mahal in the ‘60s, through his solo recording career, and work with the likes of Captain Beefheart, the
Stones, Lowell George (Little Feat), David Lindley (Jackson Browne) and then to world music projects with VM
Bhatt (Hindustan), Ali Farke Toure (Mali) and eventually the groundbreaking “Buena Vista Social Club” project
which brought a generation of phenomenal Cuban Jazz Players to world attention on record, stage and film.
This Night promises to be a real Magical Mystery Tour not to be missed.
