Ted Gioia’s “The Jazz Standards” is once again our launch pad to explore the history of Jazz through some of the 450 standards that every jazz session player needs to know in nearly every key to stay employed. Pick a composition from Gioia’s list, we’ll hear how the song entered the jazz lexicon, and then hear some great artists’ interpretations of each song from early recordings to fresh interpretations. A REGULAR SOUNDBAR FEATURE: ALWAYS A GREAT NIGHT FOR JAZZ LOVERS AND MUSIC FANS IN GENERAL.

IN-VINCE-IBLE
Oklahoma’s own (and NW Classen Graduate) VINCE GILL is a musical everyman. In the 50 years since he left OKC, he’s made his mark with masterful excursions into Country, Bluegrass, Rock, Jazz and Blues with collaborators as diverse as Mountain Smoke (where it all began), Pure Prairie League , the Time Jumpers, the Notorious Cherry Bombs and more recently the Eagles, and sessions with artists as diverse as Bonnie Raitt, Roseanne Cash, wife Amy Grant, Patty Loveless, Kelly Clarkson, Lee Ritenour, BB King and Keb Mo, Dire Straits, Sting and Barbra Streisand. His “50 Years from Home” series of EPs released over the last year chronicles the more than 100 hit songs he’s penned in the last half century, and we’ll celebrate all this music tonight.
